Amazing news… From today (22nd March) the UK’s designated Marine Protected Areas are being expanded to cover 51% of the UK waters. A new MPA byelaw will prohibit the use of bottom towed fishing gear in 13 MPA’s covering an area close to 4,000 square kilometres of the English coast. Unfortunately the protection is not absolute and with the management and policing of marine areas being difficult enforcing any laws will be challenging.
