PART 1: Hello! It’s HR by Karen’s HR in the Know and today’s topic is on the NEW US Citizenship and Immigration Services I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. Because the new I-9 Form came out today, I wanted to get this exciting stuff out to you! Before we chat about the changes made to the form, it is important to know that if you have 25 or more employees, it is not enough to just complete an I-9 Form at onboarding…you must E-Verify now! What is E-Verify you ask? E-Verify is an electronic platform that allows employers to verify the employment eligibility of their employees. When an employer uses E-Verify, it electronically confirms the information provided by the employee, which is used to confirm if the employee is authorized to work in the United States. You can continue to use the “expired” 10/31/2022 Form I-9 through 10/31/2023, but why? Start using the new form now. However, if you decide not to for whatever reason, by 11/1/2023, all employers must use the new Form I-9.
