South African ambassador Ebrahim Rasool returned home to a hero's welcome after being expelled from the United States and declared persona non grata by the Trump administration. USA: Selenskyj-Telefonat! Trump holt Tesla-Boss dazu! Musk nun Trump-Flüsterer? Das steckt dahinter!

Der Tech-Milliardär Elon Musk ist laut Medienberichten beim Telefonat des designierten US-Präsidenten Donald Trump mit dem ukrainischen Staatschef Wolodymyr Selenskyj dabei gewesen. Musk habe dabei zugesichert, dass das Satelliten-Kommunikationssystem Starlink seiner Firma SpaceX weiterhin für die Ukraine zur Verfügung stehen werde, schrieb die Website «Axios».

Der «New York Times» zufolge übergab der designierte US-Präsident den Hörer zwischenzeitlich an Musk, der sich in Trumps Anwesen Mar-a-Lago in Florida aufhielt. Das «Wall Street Journal» schrieb, Musks Teilnahme an dem Telefonat sei nicht geplant gewesen - aber er sei in den Raum gekommen, während Trump und Selenskyj sprachen. Die beiden telefonierten nach Trumps Wahlsieg miteinander.


Selenskyj wohl zufrieden mit Gespräch

«Axios» schrieb unter Berufung auf informierte Personen, Selenskyj habe insgesamt das Gefühl gehabt, das Gespräch mit Trump und Musk sei gut für die Ukraine verlaufen. Das Telefonat habe beim ukrainischen Präsidenten «kein Gefühl der Verzweiflung hinterlassen».

Seit dem russischen Überfall im Februar 2022 sind die USA mit ihren Waffenlieferungen der wichtigste Unterstützer der Ukraine. Der aktuelle US-Präsident Joe Biden bekräftigte stets, man werde der Ukraine so lange wie nötig helfen, die russische Aggression abzuwehren. Trump, der am 20. Januar das Amt übernimmt, kündigte hingegen ein rasches Ende des Krieges an. Er sagte bisher nicht, wie er das erreichen will.


Musk hatte schon eigenen Friedensplan

Dem «Wall Street Journal» zufolge ist eine der Ideen in Trumps Team eine entmilitarisierte Zone entlang des Frontverlaufs. Auch sei eine der Überlegungen, dass die Ukraine sich verpflichten solle, mindestens 20 Jahre lang auf einen Nato-Beitritt zu verzichten - und im Gegenzug weitere US-Militärhilfe bekommen werde. Musk hatte 2022 einen eigenen Friedensplan vorgeschlagen, der darauf hinauslaufen könnte, dass Russland die besetzten ukrainischen Gebiete behält.

Musk hatte Trumps Wahlkampf aktiv unterstützt und mindestens rund 120 Millionen Dollar dafür gespendet. Trump will den Tech-Milliardär, der unter anderem auch den Elektroauto-Hersteller Tesla führt, mit der Reduzierung der US-Staatsausgaben betrauen. Möglicherweise könnte er die Leitung eines speziell dafür gedachten Gremiums übernehmen.

Three men have been charged by the US Justice Department over an alleged plot by Iran to murder Donald Trump and other American citizens.

The US government says the plot was thwarted by the FBI. One of the accused men hasn't been arrested and is believed to be in Iran.  

Prosecutors say the plan dates back to September 2024, before the Presidential election. They allege that an unnamed official in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards planned to carry out surveillance and kill Mr Trump.

Investigators learned of the plot while interviewing Farhad Shakeri, an Afghan national identified by officials as an Iranian government agent, who was deported from the US after being imprisoned on robbery charges.

He told investigators that a Revolutionary Guard contact in Iran instructed him to carry out surveillance and ultimately to assassinate Mr Trump, according to the criminal complaint.

Two other men who the authorities say were recruited to participate in other assassinations, including a prominent Iranian-American journalist, have been arrested.

Donald Trump has a history of animosity towards Iran and the allegations raise questions about how the allegations may influence his policy towards the country in his new Presidency.

Politically, he highlighted Netanyahu’s need to "coalesce his coalition" after recent setbacks and to deflect from his ongoing corruption trial.
Bishara sharply criticised the US administration, accusing it of being "taken by its own rhetoric" and supporting Netanyahu’s "genocidal war in Gaza." He condemned the US for bypassing Congress and the UN Security Council, warning that such actions risk destabilising the region. Bishara also emphasised the growing international backlash, citing France’s condemnation of Israel’s bombardment as a violation of international law.
He underscored the shifting perceptions in the Arab world, stating, "For the absolute majority of the Arab and Muslim world, it is not Iran and Houthis that are seen primarily as an axis of evil, but rather Israel and the United States." Bishara warned that continued US and Israeli policies risk igniting upheaval, as seen in the past, and could severely undermine US interests in the region.
