Basem Naim, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau, has told Al Jazeera, “We received in the last few days before the brutal aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip a new American proposal from Mr Witkoff [the US envoy] through the mediators.”
Naim added this was a “bridging proposal which will see the exchange of prisoners for a return to the condition’s first phase, a temporary ceasefire, the opening of borders and aid into Gaza and engaging in second-phase negotiations”.
Naim said the parties were close to a breakthrough until Netanyahu decided to launch the latest attacks for his “internal political calculations” to appease the far right.
Contact has nevertheless continued in the last two days through the mediators, Naim said, despite Israel relaunching the war against Gaza.

USA: Selenskyj-Telefonat! Trump holt Tesla-Boss dazu! Musk nun Trump-Flüsterer? Das steckt dahinter!

Der Tech-Milliardär Elon Musk ist laut Medienberichten beim Telefonat des designierten US-Präsidenten Donald Trump mit dem ukrainischen Staatschef Wolodymyr Selenskyj dabei gewesen. Musk habe dabei zugesichert, dass das Satelliten-Kommunikationssystem Starlink seiner Firma SpaceX weiterhin für die Ukraine zur Verfügung stehen werde, schrieb die Website «Axios».

Der «New York Times» zufolge übergab der designierte US-Präsident den Hörer zwischenzeitlich an Musk, der sich in Trumps Anwesen Mar-a-Lago in Florida aufhielt. Das «Wall Street Journal» schrieb, Musks Teilnahme an dem Telefonat sei nicht geplant gewesen - aber er sei in den Raum gekommen, während Trump und Selenskyj sprachen. Die beiden telefonierten nach Trumps Wahlsieg miteinander.


Selenskyj wohl zufrieden mit Gespräch

«Axios» schrieb unter Berufung auf informierte Personen, Selenskyj habe insgesamt das Gefühl gehabt, das Gespräch mit Trump und Musk sei gut für die Ukraine verlaufen. Das Telefonat habe beim ukrainischen Präsidenten «kein Gefühl der Verzweiflung hinterlassen».

Seit dem russischen Überfall im Februar 2022 sind die USA mit ihren Waffenlieferungen der wichtigste Unterstützer der Ukraine. Der aktuelle US-Präsident Joe Biden bekräftigte stets, man werde der Ukraine so lange wie nötig helfen, die russische Aggression abzuwehren. Trump, der am 20. Januar das Amt übernimmt, kündigte hingegen ein rasches Ende des Krieges an. Er sagte bisher nicht, wie er das erreichen will.


Musk hatte schon eigenen Friedensplan

Dem «Wall Street Journal» zufolge ist eine der Ideen in Trumps Team eine entmilitarisierte Zone entlang des Frontverlaufs. Auch sei eine der Überlegungen, dass die Ukraine sich verpflichten solle, mindestens 20 Jahre lang auf einen Nato-Beitritt zu verzichten - und im Gegenzug weitere US-Militärhilfe bekommen werde. Musk hatte 2022 einen eigenen Friedensplan vorgeschlagen, der darauf hinauslaufen könnte, dass Russland die besetzten ukrainischen Gebiete behält.

Musk hatte Trumps Wahlkampf aktiv unterstützt und mindestens rund 120 Millionen Dollar dafür gespendet. Trump will den Tech-Milliardär, der unter anderem auch den Elektroauto-Hersteller Tesla führt, mit der Reduzierung der US-Staatsausgaben betrauen. Möglicherweise könnte er die Leitung eines speziell dafür gedachten Gremiums übernehmen.

According to the Israeli military, two projectiles fired from northern Gaza have been intercepted. Air raid sirens echoed across the southern city of Ashkelon as explosions were heard in the sky. President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US election, praised him for showing courage when a gunman tried to assassinate him, and said Moscow was ready for dialogue with the Republican president-elect.

In his first public remarks since Trump's win, Putin said Trump had acted like a real man during an assassination attempt while speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 14.

The slower pace, tight-knit community, and the way life carries on here, despite the obvious limitations, have been truly eye-opening.

The Justice Department unsealed criminal charges Friday in a thwarted Iranian plot to kill President-elect Donald Trump before this week’s presidential election. A criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan alleges that an unnamed official in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard instructed a contact this past September to put together a plan to surveil and ultimately kill Trump.

The People & Power team travelled through Gaza just weeks before October 7, 2023 to document Israel's weaponising of water. The situation already seemed desperate back then.

As a ceasefire came into place in January this year, our team in Gaza went to look for the people they met 18 months earlier.

Most of Gaza's remaining water infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. Israel's cutting of external water supplies and systematic destruction of water facilities have reduced the amount of water available to Palestinians in Gaza to as little as 2 litres per person a day. Water-borne diseases are running rampant through communities.

Thirst Among the Ruins tells the story of the systematic targeted obliteration of Gaza's water infrastructure by Israel, and how it violates international humanitarian law.
