The six-week Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, concluded on February 26 with millions taking a final ritual dip in the sacred river in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities reported that over 620 million people attended the event, held every 12 years, where devotees believe the river’s waters cleanse sins and grant salvation. However, the festival was marred by tragedy and health concerns. A report from the Central Pollution Control Board revealed that parts of the river were contaminated with high levels of faecal coliform bacteria, failing to meet bathing water quality standards. Two deadly incidents also cast a shadow over the event. On February 15, a stampede at a New Delhi railway station killed at least 20 people as thousands rushed to board overcrowded trains to the festival. Earlier, on January 29, chaos erupted during a mass bathing ritual, resulting in 30 deaths and 60 injuries. #AD | Accessibility in fashion is really important, and looks different for each disabled individual. The fashion industry is often detrimental to the environment and financially inaccessible. Buying from charity shops is a great way to mitigate this, while supporting a good cause. The Shaw Trust is a charity that provides disabled people looking to get into work the resources to do so. Whether that is work and independence skills, finding employment, or liaising with employers to make the workplace accessible. Recently, in collaboration with @Shaw Trust , I took a trip to the store in Wantage. Unlike many charity shops, this one was easy to manoeuvre around, and the shop manager was telling me how she considered this for the layout. I had some unique and cool finds, which is always a nice part of charity shopping. I recommend taking a visit for yourself to one of many Shaw Trust charity shops in the country.
