The six-week Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, concluded on February 26 with millions taking a final ritual dip in the sacred river in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities reported that over 620 million people attended the event, held every 12 years, where devotees believe the river’s waters cleanse sins and grant salvation. However, the festival was marred by tragedy and health concerns. A report from the Central Pollution Control Board revealed that parts of the river were contaminated with high levels of faecal coliform bacteria, failing to meet bathing water quality standards. Two deadly incidents also cast a shadow over the event. On February 15, a stampede at a New Delhi railway station killed at least 20 people as thousands rushed to board overcrowded trains to the festival. Earlier, on January 29, chaos erupted during a mass bathing ritual, resulting in 30 deaths and 60 injuries. Despite the challenges, the Maha Kumbh Mela drew an enormous crowd, reaffirming its significance as a major Hindu pilgrimage. 🎥 ViralPress #india #news #bathing #river #utterpradesh #newdelhi #mahakumbhmela
